COAT COLORS

When it comes to Yorkshire Terriers, differences in coat color set Parti Yorkies apart from traditional ones. Traditional Yorkshire Terriers are iconic for their blend of blue and tan or blue and gold coats. Parti Yorkshire Terriers display a tricolor pattern of white, blue, and tan or black and gold markings. This color variation results from recessive genes, making Parti Yorkies a rare and eye-catching choice.

Chocolate Parti Yorkshire Terriers are another charming variation with rich, chocolate-colored coats accented by white and tan markings. The chocolate color also comes from a recessive gene, requiring both parents to carry it. Like other Parti Yorkies, Chocolate Parti Yorkies have the same silky, fine-textured coats. At Uniquely Blessed Yorkies, we cherish these beautiful coat variations and specialize in breeding puppies that showcase these stunning colors.

Parti-colored Yorkies have been around since at least the early 1800s. At this time, they were often mistaken as a new color variation and thought to be non-traditional Yorkshire Terriers. So, in the early 19th century, Yorkie breeders would discreetly sell Parti Yorkies born since these rare and unusual dogs were not widely understood. At the time, it was a mystery why a tri-colored Yorkie could occasionally be born from two black and tan parents.

With advancements in DNA and genetic testing, it was confirmed that the Parti Yorkie is a purebred Yorkshire Terrier. The parti-color trait in Yorkies only appears when the puppy inherits two recessive genes, one from each parent. A Yorkshire Terrier without the parti-color gene cannot produce parti-colored offspring. With extensive research and DNA testing, the American Kennel Club (AKC) concluded that Parti Yorkies are indeed purebred Yorkshire Terriers, distinguished only by a recessive gene responsible for their unique coat color. Most Parti Yorkies exhibit a blend of black, white, and tan fur. At Uniquely Blessed Yorkies, we have also successfully bred Chocolate Parti Yorkies with black and tan coloring.

Parti-colored Yorkies are still considered rare and highly sought after by dog enthusiasts and breeders alike. Their striking appearance and endearing personality make them a popular choice for families looking for an energetic and devoted companion.

Frequently asked questions

At Uniquely Blessed Yorkies, we specialize in breeding standard-size Yorkshire Terriers, providing a variety of coat colors including Traditional, Parti, and Chocolate Parti. Our fully grown Yorkies typically weigh between 7 lbs and 10 lbs and reach approximately 9 inches in height. By focusing on standard-size Yorkies, we preserve the breed’s natural size, which is vital for their overall health and well-being.

Yorkshire Terriers are known for their spunky and energetic personalities. They are intelligent, loyal, and affectionate companions, making them great pets for families or individuals. However, due to their small size and tendency to be protective of their owners, they may not always do well with young children or other household pets. Proper socialization from a young age is essential to ensure they grow up to be friendly and well-behaved dogs.

Absolutely, Yorkies can be wonderful family pets, celebrated for their affectionate nature. However, it’s crucial to supervise interactions between young children and small dogs to ensure they treat each other with gentleness and respect.

Yes, as with all dog breeds, it is important to provide your Yorkshire Terrier with a well-balanced diet tailored to their specific nutritional needs. Typically, Yorkies need high-quality protein sources, healthy fats, and a proper balance of vitamins and minerals to sustain their health and energy levels.

Unfortunately, like all purebred dogs, Yorkshire Terriers can develop certain health concerns that owners should be aware of. These may include dental problems, luxating patella (dislocated kneecap), and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). It is essential to schedule regular check-ups with a veterinarian to monitor your Yorkie’s health and catch any potential issues early on.

Regular grooming and exercise are essential for maintaining the health of your Yorkie. Yorkshire Terriers have fine, silky coats that do not shed much compared to other breeds. However, regular grooming is still necessary to maintain the coat’s health. Trimming their coat every 6-8 weeks helps keep them looking their best.

Exercise should consist of daily walks, playtime, and mental stimulation activities such as training sessions or puzzle toys. Additionally, regular veterinary check-ups are crucial to catch any potential health issues early on. A well-balanced diet and plenty of love and attention are crucial for ensuring your Yorkie lives a long, happy life.

While all dogs require proper training and socialization, Yorkshire Terriers are known for their intelligence and eagerness to please, making them relatively easy to train. However, like any breed, consistency and positive reinforcement are key when it comes to successfully training a Yorkie.
